BOISBUCHET RESIDENCY PROGRAMME
REENIE CHARRIÈRE
SEASON 2021
As a mixed media artist Reenie Charrière playfully pushes materials in unexpected arrangements bringing a surprising beauty to what may be discarded. Everyday situations stir Reenie’s investigations of what lingers in the environment. Her practice involves collecting and transforming everyday materials, especially throwaways. Her artwork reveals and questions the abundance of waste in our consumer dependent society. Motivated by architecture, movement, and space, Reenie’s sculptural installations play upon the unpredictable juxtapositions of natural and synthetic matter.
“Everyday situations stir Reenie’s investigations of what lingers in the environment.”
Reenie worked with large scale drawings and mixed media textile explorations motivated by and as a response to the natural landscape, environment and the architecture of Boisbuchet. Using Alvaro Siza and Carlos Castanheira’s 2018 ‘A Settlement’s Fireplace’ and one of the main rooms in the central building as reference points and exhibition spaces, Reenie made several works using recycled materials from the workshop exploring the principles of shape, space, color, and form.
