Afonso Tostes stayed at Boisbuchet commissioned by Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain
July 5, 2019
Brazilian sculptor Afonso Tostes stayed at Domaine de Boisbuchet to prepare a major artwork commissioned by Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain for their exhibition on trees (July 12th to January 5th 2019). Bringing together a community of artists, botanists, and philosophers, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain echoes the latest scientific research that sheds new light on trees. Organised around several large ensembles of works, the exhibition Trees gives voice to numerous figures who, through their aesthetic or scientific journey, have developed a strong, intimate link with trees, thereby revealing the beauty and biological wealth of these great protagonists of the living world, threatened today with large-scale deforestation.
Afonso Tostes collects tools on abandoned sites and carves wooden handles. For “Trees”, he prepared a new series, in residence at the Domaine de Boisbuchet.
