IN RESIDENCE: THE GRAMOUNCE
LANDSCAPE COOKING
JUNE 6TH – JUNE 12TH
The landscapes that surround us are alive with many layers of living. Animals, microbes, plants and other beings intertwine infinitely, and energy flows everywhere. Since prehistoric times, humans have been cooking, fermenting, transforming food in deep attunement with what was found around them. Could we see the landscapes that surround us as not only sources of food or habitat, but as cooking forces as well? What happens when we leave our domestic kitchens and begin cooking with the land?
Landscape Cooking is a collective residency devised by The Gramounce and hosted by Domaine de Boisbuchet, in which we explore the possibilities of cooking with the landscape. For the length of this residency, we will disregard the modern technologies of our kitchens and draw ourselves closer to the energy flows and transforming possibilities of land. As a group, we will ask ourselves: how may we collaborate with the flowing waters of a river, a pile of sun-warmed rocks or yeast-rich fruits in order to create nourishment? Might nature have agency, wills of its own?
This residency seeks to investigate new routes through which we may become more attuned to the living landscapes that we find ourselves in, seeing the natural world not as a separate entity from us, but as a web of living we are intrinsically part of.
