BOISBUCHET RESIDENCY PROGRAMME
BRENDA GARCÍA
SEASON 2022
Project: entre le ciel et la terre: une expérience florale pour les 5 sens (between earth and sky / entre el cielo y la tierra)
Description: floral installation based on the observation and contemplation of the environment and the connection with nature.
Brenda G. Wallace (née García) is a Mexican-born floral designer and artist. Currently based in Barcelona, she develops large and small-scale projects, experimenting with flowers, foliage and different materials, some of them pre-loved, giving them a new life/purpose (wood, ceramics, metal, everyday objects, etc.).
Coming to Boisbuchet, Brenda wanted to focus on the ephemeral, her journey was about enjoying the moment, the now and here being fully present surrounded by nature.
Through her project: Entre le ciel et la terre: une expérience florale pour les 5 sens (between earth and sky), she shared her love and passion for flowers, experimenting with a more sustainable way to promote floral design and working with local foliage from the Domaine de Boisbuchet and flowers from Les Batisses, a local flower farm in France (in the Regional Natural Park in Perigord).
Observing nature rather than forcing unnatural designs, contemplation was key during Brenda’s time at Boisbuchet (observe, admire, enjoy, create).
During her presentation, she shared some more sustainable practices to design and create with flowers and other materials.
More than building floral installations, the project was a full experience (for the five senses) where participants could admire the flowers, touch the different materials (florals and mechanics), feel the caresses from the wind during the guided tour, smell the flowers and the environment surrounding the different installations, taste some of the flowers while walking in the Domaine, listening to the sounds of nature and reflecting about our time in this world with the poem “between earth and sky” by Maria Labbe.
The installations were not only about floral design but also about the scents, with the intention to bring back memories to build a deeper connection between the guests / participants and the whole experience (floral mindfulness), awakening all the senses, feeling the earth and her treasures, reconnecting with our planet. During the guided visit, we had a gift from the sky, wrapping up the experience feeling and listening to the rain.
“Boisbuchet was the perfect scenario to mindfully share my love for flowers and the importance of taking the time to reconnect with nature with a floral mindfulness proposal.”
