BOISBUCHET RESIDENCY PROGRAMME

JULIA ISHAC

SEASON 2021

Julia Ishac is a self-taught, German-Lebanese photographer working on personal and commissioned projects. In her artistic work, she’s currently drawn to conflicts and antithesis of human behaviour within their environment. For instance the subject of  “connection through digitalisation“ and the loss that comes with it. Instead of working critically she’s more interested in showing positive approaches, a sense of humour and weirdness. Through her curiosity and point of view she creates work that is both subversive and cheering. Living in Zurich she’s inspired by the city and captivated by nature. Based on her ideals she puts focus on working with a sustainable approach.

“Since her stay at Boisbuchet Julia has been motivated to develop her own artistic practice and conceptual works.”

As part of her two weeks stay at Boisbuchet, Julia wanted to explore new working methods and experiment with alternative/natural photo printing technics. Her inspiration came through research in books and then the final working process developed automatically. Using photos from her archive, paper, beetroot emulsion, sun and patience she created so called “Anthotypes”, photo prints produced only with UV light and natural produce. Julia also made a photo documentary about Boisbuchet, visualising its connection between nature, design and the creatures interacting in its microcosmos.
