BOISBUCHET RESIDENCY PROGRAMME
LUCÍA GROMPONE
SEASON 2021
Lucía Grompone is an industrial designer and illustrator. Currently she is part of the innovation team at Ravensburger, a German toy company. As an illustrator Lucía is working on various jobs, from street art to book covers, from stage design to personal artistic research. Up until a few years ago she has been investigating new combinations of tangible and digital products and services as Lead Design Researcher at Denkwerk GmbH in Cologne.
In 2021 Lucía came to Boisbuchet to work on 2 different projects. During the first week she continued a series of textile illustrations and graphics made up of fabric, which she started during her residency in 2020. This time Lucía incorporated typography and focussed on the concept of curiosity. Lucía has been using preprinted fabrics with text, stamps and different threads, with which she has produced a series of flags. Lucía dedicated three of her flags to Boisbuchet´s pavillions by picking up some of their individual architectonic features.
In the second week Lucía collaborated with Gregor Kuschmirz. Their aim was to create and experiment with playful objects made of wood. They tried out different ways to join pieces in order to provoke unexpected combinations of shapes and colors and thus to trigger curiosity. Amongst many prototypes they developed a series of brightly colored wooden rings with partly movable magnets, which invite people to discover their hidden forces and possibilities for surprising interactions.
