Colombian designer Francisco Jaramillo (Medellin, 1987) works on the frontier between art and design. His work aims to reect on current topics, like the environmental crisis, the loss of traditional cras and the possibilities of local material and techniques to solve social challenges that impact Colombia and other South American communities, through design. Understanding the richness of the material and acknowledging the people behind the process is vital in his practice.
Aer graduating from Elisava School in Barcelona (2014), he opened Fango (2017), a design studio in Medellin which explores the relationship between humans, objects and context, combining technology and artisanship to cra collectible pieces driven by a clear narrative and rooted in tradition, nature and creative innovation. Material and territories investigation are at the heart of the studio.
Francisco Jaramillo was selected by Dwell Magazine as one of the 24 Best Designers of 2022. He received Wallpaper Magazine’s Best New Waves award in 2023, and that same year he was selected as one of the ten designers highlighted on Design Parade Hyeres 2023, with a Special Mention by IDEAT Magazine and a nomination on the Dezeen Awards, in the Environmental category.
Fango continues to produce in several Colombian cra workshops. Francisco Jaramillo lives and creates between Medellin and Barcelona.
