The Rodina Netherlands
Tereza Ruller (she/her) identifies as a mother, communication designer, researcher, and an educator. In her practice, The Rodina, investigates the performative and critical approach towards graphic design. Her transdisciplinary practice emphasizes the power of situation, playfulness, active spectatorship, and relations between human and nonhuman actors. Ruller’s work is deeply collaborative and consists of participatory events, spatial installations, virtual environments, and visual identities. Addressing critical issues of our time—such as ecological, social, and political crises—she seeks to develop collective shifts in perspective.

The Workshop
Throughout the week-long workshop, we will explore, research, and analyze the location and vegetation of Domaine de Boisbuchet. Based on our findings and experiments, we will propose, sketch, and prototype unique botanical labels and a navigation system.
Discovering unexpected forms, paths, and stories is welcome. Therefore graphic design plays an important role in facilitating joyful encounters and helping visitors to appreciate the beauty of outdoor spaces.
The outcome of the workshop shall be signage that brings new playful engagement with nature and invites visitors to experience their surroundings differently. We will not only gain knowledge about the plants but also reflect on the significance of nature in our lives. After all, garden signs are not only functional, but also offer room for beauty and experimentation.
We will use a variety of colors, typefaces, prints, objects, and other design elements to create a new experience for the visitors. This can include collaging, incorporating images of plants and flowers, using and repurposing natural materials such as wood and stone, and creating designs that reflect the history and culture of the area.
