The Workshop
“There are at least two kinds of games: finite and infinite. Finite games are played to be won, infinite games are played to continue the play.” Inspired by this idea, this workshop explores the creation of kinetic systems that push everyday objects beyond their conventional functions. Through hands-on experimentation, we will design and build artifacts with ambiguous behaviors—devices that move and evolve.
Beyond construction, the workshop will also delve into the visual storytelling that emerges from these objects. We will explore how movement shapes perception, how an object’s function can expand through its interaction with space, and how meaning is constructed through media such as photography and video. By composing images that capture their transformation, we will develop a language that amplifies their presence, emphasizing the relationship between motion and stillness, form and narrative. The surrounding environment will play an essential role, as we design sets and contexts that further animate these kinetic pieces.
Rather than seeking a final result, the goal is to open a process of continuous play, where objects, images, and interpretations evolve together. Through framing, context, and movement, we will humanize the inanimate, allowing it to express emotion and intention. Animating an object is not just about mechanics but about revealing its latent symbolism—how it can embody human gestures, tensions, and desires. No technical knowledge is required to participate, just curiosity, a hands-on mindset, and a willingness to explore the infinite possibilities of play.
